1. What’s different between a Shuttle Service and a Tour?

We are a location to location, “Hop On, Hop Off” shuttle service. We let you set your pace and create your own itinerary. We pick you up at the Anchorage Downtown Visitors Center and start you on our loop. We service Turnagain Arm and make stops at top locations: Beluga Point, Indian Valley Gold Mine, Turnagain Gallery, Girdwood/Alyeska, Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center, Portage Lodge. At Girdwood there is a free local bus to get you all around Girdwood. At Portage Lodge there are courtesy shuttle service to get you around Portage Valley. All you need to do is pick and choose where you want to “hop on” and “hop off” during the day.

2. Do you provide online itinerary help?

No, the shuttle service is a self-help service designed like a bus service. We encourage you to print the schedule and do your research on areas you want to visit using your time according to the shuttle schedule. We have provided helpful links on our website to assist you. The shuttle is designed with the independent traveler in mind. Our website is a comprehensive site for travelers who enjoy the fun of planning their own trips and the adventure of independent, experiential travel. You are free to move about Turnagain Arm at your leisure.

3. What happens if I need the shuttle to wait so I can run to the restroom or back to my car?

The driver is instructed to leave on time in order to keep the shuttle on schedule. Others will be waiting at other stops throughout the day and expecting the driver to be on time.

4. Do you have a schedule?

Yes, we recommend that you go to our website and print a schedule for the day since there are several areas where cell service and mobile data isn't available so you cannot count on being able to look it up online any time you want.

5. Do you have a phone contact number?

No, the shuttle service is designed to be an online self-service shuttle.

6. How does it work?

Show your voucher to the driver when you board. The shuttle stops at each designated stopping point so you can get off when you wish. You can ask the driver for recommendations on attractions and places to dine. When you are ready to take the shuttle again to your next stop, wait at the point where you disembarked until the shuttle arrives.

7. What time are pick-ups and what time does the day end?

Pick-ups are scheduled between 8:00 am - 8:00 pm and there is a shuttle departing every hour. Please bear in mind we may have days of larger groups and may substitute vehicles from one of our sister companies either Alaska’s Finest Tours & Cruises or Anchorage Tours & Transfers. We begin our final returns after 8:00 pm. Anyone not in the designated pick up location will be left behind. We will at that point not be liable for your return. Shuttles will always strive to be on time and leave promptly. We do not wait for customers so plan accordingly.

8. Are the entrance fees to other locations included?

No. In fact, if you are going to the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center or Portage Glacier Cruise you must have a ticket purchased in advance through the website or the driver cannot allow you to disembark the shuttle. There is no suitable location to purchase a ticket for walk up passengers and the driver cannot wait for each individual to purchase tickets on arrival. Admissions to these attractions can be purchased at the time that you book your shuttle tickets. The shuttle will remain on schedule and will not accommodate any passengers if they do not have pre-purchased tickets.

9. Is the shuttle “pet friendly’?

No, this is a public shuttle and no pets are allowed in the vehicle.

10. Is there a place for lunch?

As you are going to be out all day, meals always a concern. There are numerous locations to buy food including the Portage Day Lodge, Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center cafe, Girdwood mini-mall, several restaurants in Girdwood and restaurants at Indian Valley Mine. If you bring your own food, please remember that there is no eating on the shuttle and that garbage must not be left behind at any stops except in designated garbage cans. If you are in the wilderness we ask that you keep Alaska clean by carrying your garbage back with you.

11. What if weather is a problem during our shuttle?

All of our destinations operate regardless of weather. Therefore, we do not give refunds due to bad weather.

Inclement weather can occur in any season, and even on the clearest of days on Turnagain Arm weather can change. We recommend always being prepared with appropriate clothing for rain or cold.

Whether it’s high winds, rain, or sun, each year brings a slew of challenges that could severely cramp your day plans.
